Henry Smith MP has opened a new Covid-19 vaccination unit in Crawley (on Friday, 26th March) which will further increase the number of people locally who have been jabbed against coronavirus.

The Crawley MP visited the site at Saxonbrook Medical in Maidenbower to thank staff and hear more about the practice’s work since Covid-19 vaccinations started in December.

Henry said;

“I welcome this vaccination centre at Saxonbrook Medical that will provide a dedicated space for this important work.

“Well done to all involved in getting this facility built so quickly for the benefit of the people of Crawley.

“I am delighted at the pace of the Covid-19 vaccination programme as a whole and the swift work in providing this facility is part of that national effort.”

The new purpose-built unit will allow the team to administer up to 2,000 vaccinations each day, accommodating various vaccination clinics separate to the practice’s day-to-day GP services.

The facility was built in less than three months and provides safe access to all vaccinations including the flu programme for the benefit of patients across Crawley.

The practice in Maidenbower was among the first sites in the UK to welcome patients to receive the Covid-19 vaccine in December 2020 and has administered more than 18,000 doses.

Saxonbrook’s vaccination programme is being rolled out by the Alliance for Better Care, a GP federation with practice members in Crawley, Mid Sussex, Horsham and East Surrey.

The name of the new unit will be decided by a town-wide schools competition, with the winning entry receiving a prize of book vouchers for their school library.

Patients aged 50 and over are now being asked to come forward and book their vaccination appointment with their local GP. Covid-19 vaccinations can also be booked on the NHS website.
