Crawley MP, Henry Smith, will join representatives from the Chagos Refugees Group UK in Crawley on Thursday to meet with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office Minister, Mark Simmonds MP, to discuss the islands’ future.
Commenting, Henry said:
“I believe that, having been removed in a quite shameful way from their native homeland in the 1960s, that Chagossian and Diego Garcian people and their descendents living in Crawley should be have the human right to return to their islands should they wish.
“Tomorrow I will discuss with the Minister return visits to the islands and support for the community in Crawley.”
There are around 2,000 Chagossian and Diego Garcian residents living in Crawley having arrived in the UK via Gatwick Airport.
