• Through the Vaccines Delivery Plan, over 202,000 doses have been administered in Sussex and East Surrey.

Henry Smith MP has welcomed the Government’s Vaccines Delivery Plan – the biggest vaccination programme in British history – that sets ambitious targets as Government continues to ramp up its vaccine rollout.

Already in Sussex and East Surrey, 202,509 vaccinations have been administered, as part of plans to vaccinate the top four priority groups by mid-February. In the south east of England, 922,791 people have received a vaccine, with 998,833 doses administered in total across the area.

The United Kingdom is leading the way with its vaccination programme. So far, more than 7.9 million vaccinations have been administered to 7.4 million people – the third highest per capita, behind only the UAE and Israel. In addition, only two countries have administered more doses than the United Kingdom – China and the USA.

The latest figures show that, over the last seven days, the number of people who have been vaccinated has increased by 2.5 million – an increase of 50 per cent in a week. Over 13 per cent of the entire adult population has so far received a vaccine. In England, first doses have been delivered to over four fifths of those over 80, over half of those aged 75-79 and three quarters of elderly care home residents.

“The NHS vaccination programme, the biggest in our country’s history, has got off to a fantastic start thanks to the hard work of all of those involved.

“I’m grateful for the hard work of NHS staff and all who have stepped up to play their part, including those taking on paid and volunteer positions at vaccination sites.

“It’s great to see that so many people locally have received the vaccine. The UK is leading the world in our fight back against the pandemic but there’s no time for any complacency.

“I’m looking forward to getting my vaccine over the coming months – and I urge everyone to do the same when they get the call up.”
