The Christmas period is always a time for reflection, to be thankful for what we have, and to remember those no longer with us.

At the start of this year, I paid tribute in the House of Commons to my caseworker, Susan, who sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer. Susan was a dedicated and hard-working member of my team, who is greatly missed.

I highlighted with the Health & Social Care Secretary the work of organisations such as Pancreatic Cancer UK. They offer important assistance to patients and their families; the Government will continue working alongside such groups.

Later in the year I secured a debate on our NHS, where I highlighted issues such as the importance of improved GP provision and reduced waiting times. This has also been highlighted by the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, on the steps of Downing Street shortly after taking office.

Indeed, the Government will bring forward legislation to enshrine in law a multi-year funding settlement for the NHS that will see a £33.9 billion per annum increase in the NHS budget by 2023-24.

In 2016 the people of Crawley voted to leave the European Union. I have worked tirelessly in Parliament to ensure this vote is delivered upon; two general elections later, there is a Conservative majority in the House of Commons who will ensure the people’s decision is enacted.

Looking towards the New Year; the incoming government will work to see more people in a well-paid job and provide help with the cost of living, including by increasing the National Living Wage to £10.50 per hour by 2024 and keeping taxes low.

Finally, my thanks once again to the people of our town for electing me to a fourth term as local MP. I have been sworn in for the new parliamentary term, and have taken my seat in the chamber, ready to continue representing you.
