Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Crawley Henry Smith was part of the Gatwick Airport Jobs Fair yesterday (Thursday, 7th November) held at the Arora Hotel, Southgate, as one of Crawley’s largest employers helped jobseekers and those seeking new career opportunities.

Henry said;

“This is great news for Crawley – I was pleased to officially support this event and speak with some of the employers and jobseekers.

“It’s thanks to events such as these that in Crawley, the number of people who are claiming key out-of-work benefits has fallen locally by over 960 since 2010 – a reduction of some 36 per cent. Indeed, Crawley employment is at an all-time high.”

More than a thousand jobs with more over 40 airport-based employers were on offer at this year’s Gatwick Airport Jobs Fair. The event saw an exclusive mobile app to help jobseekers engage with employers and receive updates on opportunities before, during and after the event. Also at the event was a CV surgery, helping jobseekers make their application stand out.

Jobseekers were able to talk to employers, including Gatwick Airport Limited, Sussex Police, Kier Construction, The Body Shop, KFC, itsu, Border Force, Pret a Manger, Air Navigation Solutions, Wagamama, World Duty Free, Govia Thameslink Railway, MoneyCorp, Hamleys, Wetherspoons, the Arora Hotel Group, Baxter Storey, DHL, Dnata and many more.

Gatwick’s employability programme ‘One Destination’ was also on hand to assist anyone who has been long-term unemployed find a job. The programme helps candidates complete a five-year history check, giving them the necessary security clearance to work at the airport.

The scheme also teaches communication, team work and presentation skills. Successful candidates will then be referred to employers at the airport for interviews for any available jobs.
