Henry Smith MP, elected last month as Chairman of the new All-Party Parliamentary Group on Blood Cancer, took part in a debate in Westminster Hall yesterday (Thursday, 7th July) on how patients are affected by changes to the Cancer Drugs Fund.

Henry said;

“In my role as Chairman of the Parliamentary Group on Blood Cancer I was delighted that we were able to secure a debate on Blood Cancer and the Cancer Drugs Fund.

“While the UK is a world leader in blood cancer research there’s more that we’re able to do.

“Last year the Government confirmed that by 2020, the approximately 280,000 people that are diagnosed with cancer each year will receive a tailored recovery plan. Myself and my colleagues on the new Group will be seeking assurances from the Government on this goal – I raised this issue in yesterday’s debate with George Freeman MP, a Minister at the Department of Health.

“I look forward to continuing to work alongside MPs of a variety of political parties in the interests of standing up for blood cancer patients and their families.”
