Henry Smith MP has presented graduates of the Crawley Town Community Foundation National Citizen Service scheme with certificates at the completion of the Autumn 2015 programme.
The ceremony took place at the Function Suite at the Checkatrade.com Stadium on Saturday, 21st November.
Henry said;
“After helping the Crawley Town Community Foundation help launch their first National Citizen Service programme earlier in the year, I was delighted to present certificates to the young people who have completed the scheme.
“It was a real pleasure to hear of the activities the young people involved in the scheme have taken part in, and to hear how much they have enjoyed NCS with the Community Foundation.
“Their social action project undertaken included raising funds for Friends of Manor Green, including a bucket collection at a Crawley Town game.”
The Crawley MP’s ongoing support for the Community Foundation has included support for the Kicks programme and local soccer schools. Henry also mentioned the Foundation in Parliament last year.
On Wednesday during his Autumn Statement, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt Hon George Osborne MP, told the House of Commons that NCS would be expanded.
The Chancellor said that currently, 80,000 students take part in National Citizen Service. It was confirmed that by the end of the decade, the Government will ensure funding for 300,000 students to take part in the programme, which was created by the Prime Minister in 2010.
Henry continued;
“I welcomed the Chancellor announcing this funding package for National Citizen Service. As the Crawley Town Community Foundation have shown, this scheme continues to have such a great effect on young people locally and around the UK.
“The Community Foundation continues to go from strength to strength. As a sign of the progress their NCS programme is making, I was pleased to learn they are looking to recruit a new NCS co-ordinator to work on future initiatives.
“England international Jordan Nobbs will be at the Broadfield on Monday (30th November), to join in with the next COGs football session – it’s great to see the Foundation’s work in the local community is receiving such recognition.”
