Henry Smith MP has helped the Crawley Town FC Community Foundation launch their National Citizen Service programme at an event at the Checkatrade.com Stadium.
Henry said;
“The Crawley Town FC Community Foundation always do a great job in helping young people in Crawley and further afield.
“I was delighted to help launch the club’s involvement in National Citizen Service. The Community Foundation will be organising NCS over the next three years in Crawley and East Grinstead.”
Before Crawley Town’s match against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday (29th August), Henry joined Claire Burrage-Edwards, National Citizen Service Programme Co-ordinator at the Community Foundation, and club mascot Reggie the Red, to speak with young people interested in joining the scheme, on the ball court outside Redz Bar at the Checkatrade.com Stadium.
At pitchside before kick-off, Henry and Claire joined a number of Crawley Town first team players in support of the scheme. The players were wearing shirts emblazoned with details of the Foundation’s NCS programme.
At half-time, Henry and Claire spoke to supporters on the public address system to let Reds fans know more about NCS, and how the club’s Community Foundation will be organising this in Crawley and East Grinstead for the next three years.
Henry continued;
“It was a pleasure to speak with all those young people who expressed an interest in joining the scheme.
“I’m always pleased to work with the Community Foundation and the great work they’re doing for our local area. In November, I joined the Crawley Town Supporters Alliance and Reds legend Sergio Torres in seeing the Kicks project in Bewbush. Earlier this year, I saw for myself the Foundation’s Easter Soccer School in Maidenbower.
“I was delighted to support Crawley Capers in the House of Commons. This is a project organised jointly by the Crawley Town Community Foundation and Autism Sussex, who won a phone vote to be awarded £50,000 of funding from the People’s Millions.”
Claire Burrage-Edwards, National Citizen Service Programme Co-ordinator at the Community Foundation, commented;
“I am extremely pleased that us at Crawley Town Community Foundation are able to offer this amazing programme to 16-17 year olds of Crawley and East Grinstead.
“Not only will they be building up their own skills, confidence and personal development, they will also be helping do the same for others on their programme and to carry on with further into life.
“We are still taking sign-ups for our Autumn Programme but places are going fast. For more information please contact [email protected] or ring 01233 600142.”
