Henry Smith MP has called on people in Crawley to give their opinions on the future of the BBC in the current review of the Corporation’s charter.
Henry said;
“The BBC is governed by a Royal Charter, and the latest one is set to expire at the end of next year.
“As a member of the European Scrutiny Committee in the previous Parliament I questioned the BBC’s Director General as well as its Director of News & Current Affairs about the necessity of the impartiality of the Corporation’s news output.
“The BBC is treasured by many in Crawley, around the country and indeed across the world. I urge people in our town to give their opinions ahead of the renewal of the BBC Charter.”
The Royal Charter forms the constitutional basis of the BBC, and the Government wants to hear how people across the UK wish for the BBC and its services to evolve over the next decade.
This consultation is broken down into four key areas:
- The BBC’s mission, purpose and values
- What the BBC does in terms of its scale and scope
- BBC funding
- BBC governance and regulation.
The consultation is open until 8th October 2015, and people are able to respond in the following ways:
- Web, at: https://jfe.qualtrics.com/form/SV_eR0WGwjy32ku0TP
- Email, via: [email protected]
- Post, to: BBC Charter Review Consultation, DCMS, 100 Parliament Street, London SW1A 2BQ
Henry continued;
“If you are making a submission to the consultation, or even if you have any views about this issue, I would be interested in hearing from you. Please not hesitate to write to me at the House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA, or email me directly at: [email protected].”
