Henry Smith MP has met Crawley residents in Westminster at an event where people across the country spoke directly to MPs about their concerns regarding climate change.
Henry said;
“I was pleased to see people in Crawley taking the time to come to Westminster to be a part of this mass lobby, organised by the Climate Coalition.
“I’m always on hand to listen to people’s concerns; either by post, email or phone – of course, feel free to stop me in the street as well!”
“I’ll continue to work with parliamentary colleagues, and I hope we will see real progress towards a global climate change deal.”
The event was organised by the Climate Coalition, on behalf of their 100 member organisations.
This year, global leaders will sign new agreements on climate and sustainable development.
The Climate Coalition is calling on politicians to create a low-carbon infrastructure plan, covering energy and transport and the restoration of nature.
David Nussbaum, Chief Executive of WWF-UK said:
“Everyone has a stake in beating climate change. And everybody has a role to play. For a long time, scientists, business leaders and the public have understood the severity of the threat.”
Christine Allen, Christian Aid’s Director of Policy and Public Affairs, said:
“Climate change is increasingly becoming the moral issue of our times. Those suffering from it the most in the developing world bear the least responsibility for creating it.
“As the first country to industrialise Britain has a duty to lead the way in addressing this global problem.
“That is why it is vital we in the UK urge our new MPs to make it a priority during this Parliament.”
