Henry Smith MP has welcomed the latest figures showing that 154 families in Crawley have been helped onto the housing ladder as a result of the Help to Buy scheme.
Henry said;
“It is encouraging to see that this Government is having a direct effect in helping people in Crawley. I am pleased that 154 families in our town have been helped on the property ladder.
“Under the previous Government, new home building fell to its lowest level since the 1920s, which is why housing shortages are most acute now.”
Across the country, Help to Buy has now enabled nearly 90,000 families to buy their own home with over 80 per cent of sales going to first-time buyers.
Last week, the Prime Minister pledged to delivering 200,000 new Starter Homes by 2020; good quality homes that will be sold at 20 per cent below the market price, and will be reserved for first-time buyers only, under the age of 40.
Henry continued;
“House building is now at its highest level since 2007, meaning more people are able to get on in life and find a home of their own.
“I remember how hard it was trying to get that first mortgage, and I am pleased that people in Crawley today are able to have assistance from the Help to Buy scheme.
“This Government showed their commitment to helping people onto the housing ladder by taking action.
“The growing Kilnwood Vale development, as well as Forge Wood, our town's fourteenth neighbourhood, will result in affordable new homes.
“As a result, more local families will be able to own a home for the first time, and enjoy the financial security that comes with home ownership.”
