Henry Smith MP has welcomed an announcement from the Government confirming that motorists can fly the flag with pride on driving licences.
Henry said;
“As a proud Briton, as well as a vexillologist, I am pleased that we will be able to get the Union Flag on our next driving licence.
“I am pleased that this Government is continuing to act in the interests of motorists, following on from last month’s announcement on further improvements to roads across West Sussex, as well as scrapping Labour’s fuel duty escalator.”
The inclusion of Union Flags on licences is one of a number of improvements being made for motorists.
In October 2014, the DVLA announced a dramatic drop in licence fees for those who apply online.
The paper tax disc has been discontinued to reduce unnecessary red tape, and motorists can pay their vehicle tax by direct debit.
From 8th June 2015, the paper counterpart of the photocard licence will no longer be required.
Claire Perry MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport, commented;
“People in this country rightly take pride in our national flag which is why I am delighted it will now be displayed on British driving licences.
“Celebrating Britain strengthens our sense of national identity and our unity. I will feel proud to carry my new licence and I hope others will too.”
