Henry Smith, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Crawley, has welcomed the Conservative commitment to extend the Right to Buy to the tenants of housing association properties.
Henry said;
“Right to Buy has already helped over two million families get on the housing ladder since it was first launched in 1980 and now many more people will have the same opportunity.
“That is why the Conservatives are committed to extend Right to Buy to housing association tenants. This is part of our commitment to back families who have worked hard, paid their rent and played by the rules.
“This will mean a new generation of people able to achieve their dream and enjoy the security that comes from owning your own home.
“Homes are being built in Crawley, and I was recently pleased to visit our town’s 14th neighbourhood Forge Wood, that will include 1,900 new homes, including around 530 council properties.
“Crawley families are also benefiting from the Help to Buy scheme. Nationally, Help to Buy has now enabled nearly 90,000 families to buy their own home with over 80 per cent of sales going to first-time buyers.
“The Help to Buy ISA will also help people in Crawley. For every £200 people save towards their first home, the Government will put in an extra £50, up to a maximum bonus of £3,000.”
Across England, 1.3 million families will have the opportunity to buy their housing association home.
Homes that are sold will be replaced by new affordable homes. In addition, by requiring councils to sell their expansive council houses as they become vacant £1 billion will be made available to bring derelict, brownfield land back into use for housing.
