HENRY SMITH VISITS SOUTHGATE PRIMARY SCHOOL
Henry Smith, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Crawley, has visited Southgate Primary School to spend time speaking with pupils and staff.
Henry said;
“It was a pleasure to speak with pupils at Southgate Primary School about democracy, the role of a Member of Parliament, and the upcoming commemorations for the 70th anniversary of VE Day.
“It was fascinating to hear how the pupils had taken part in their own election. It is important that young people are aware of how our political process works, and I am delighted that Southgate Primary are taking such a leading role in doing this.”
Pupils at the school have been learning about the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
Sharon Bondonno, Assistant Head of Southgate Primary School commented:
“I would like to say, on behalf of the school community, a big thank you to Henry Smith. He really got the children motivated and interested in both VE Day and in the upcoming elections and they were particularly excited that he took their letters away to give to David Cameron!
“Henry Smith spoke to the children about the VE Day on 8th May and linked it to the forthcoming elections in order to help encourage respect for democracy and a developing interest in the world around them, including the political process.
“He was impressed that the school was actively promoting British values and the children's ideas were excellent. He hoped one day to see a pupil from Southgate Primary school become a Member of Parliament or even the Prime Minister!
“Once again, you have been a brilliant source of support and help for our children and we are very grateful that you took the time to come in to speak to our school.”
