Henry Smith has been re-elected as Member of Parliament for Crawley, with an increased majority of 6,526.
Henry received 22,829 votes, a share of 47%, on a turnout of 65.7%.
Henry said;
“I am honoured, humbled and thankful for being re-elected Member of Parliament for Crawley with an increased majority.
“I would like to thank my family who have been on the journey with me.
“Thank you as well to my agent, Cllr Richard Burrett; my campaign manager, Cllr Tom Liddiard; and the Chairman of Crawley Conservative Association, Cllr Bob Burgess.
“I also want to say thank you to every single person who helped on our campaign. From delivering leaflets to designing literature, to knocking on doors, and all these late nights in the office – I am thankful to you all.
“Most importantly, thank you to the people of Crawley, who have put their trust in me to represent them in Parliament for another five years.”
The count took place at the K2 Leisure Centre, and the final result was announced by the Mayor of Crawley, Cllr Brenda Smith, at 3.37am on Friday morning.
Henry also paid tribute to his Labour opponent, Cllr Chris Oxlade;
“While Chris and I differ on some policies about how to achieve the best for Crawley, everyone knows about the spirit with which he serves our town.
“Having lost two parliamentary elections myself, I know how tough this will be for him. Chris has been a most worthy opponent.
"I thank the Mayor of Crawley, as well as the Acting Returning Officer, Lee Harris, the members of staff who worked through day and night to ensure the election went smoothly as well as the local police for ensuring security."
