Henry Smith MP has welcomed the Government announcing that infrastructure projects funded by taxpayers will be branded with the Union Flag in future.
Henry said;
“It is right that it will be recognised further that Government projects are funded by taxpayers.
“These will be displayed proudly on infrastructure projects across our country, denoting that they are paid for by us.
“Projects across the continent – including the UK – funded by the European Union are already emblazoned with the EU flag. Of course, every time I see that flag it is a constant reminder that only with a majority Conservative Government will our country get an in/out UK/EU referendum!
“Of course, as a vexillologist, I am pleased to see our flag displayed proudly in whichever form it may take!”
The Government has committed to fund a significant element of the £466 billion of planned projects.
Last week, the Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) praised the UK’s investment in infrastructure, and called on the Government to ‘continue to build on the progress made with the National Infrastructure Plan’ to ensure that the UK’s ‘textbook’ recovery continues.
Rt Hon Francis Maude MP, Minister for the Cabinet Office, commented;
“As part of our long term economic plan, this government is investing in our nation’s physical and digital infrastructure. Whether it’s High Speed 2 investment in the Northern Powerhouse or superfast broadband connecting Cornwall and Wales, all future infrastructure projects funded for by UK taxpayers will carry this simple UK flag branding.”
