Henry Smith MP has welcomed funding of more than £11,860,000 from the Government for maintaining and improving school buildings in West Sussex.

This year, £1.4 billion will be invested in maintaining and improving school buildings across the country so children get off to the best start in buildings fit for purpose for the future.

The cash boost includes over £430 million to carry out essential maintenance projects at over 1,200 schools and £780 million for councils and education trusts to invest in maintaining and renewing their schools.

Henry welcomed money from the £433 million Condition Improvement Fund for Hazelwick School in Three Bridges. This funding will provide support for flat roof replacement and the replacement of heating installation.

Henry said;

“Schools in Crawley are more than just buildings, they are the centres of our community where our young people not only learn but are inspired.

“This funding from the Government for school buildings this year will help make sure our schools are in the best condition for children to learn the knowledge and skills they will use for the rest of their lives.

“This support will help make sure that children in Crawley don’t spend time in buildings that aren’t fit for purpose.”

Since 2015, this Fund alone has allocated nearly £2 billion for over 6,000 projects at more than 3,000 schools all over the country.

This announcement means the Government has spent £7.4 billion on school buildings since 2015.
