Henry Smith MP has called on people across Crawley to register to vote if they have not already done so, on Democracy Day, 20th January 2015.
“It is great to see the Houses of Parliament working with the BBC to provide information on the history of our democracy.
“This can also be used as a calling to encourage people to register to vote. The general election is less than four months away, and it is essential for everyone to have their say.”
Registering to vote takes around 5 minutes, and can be done:
- Online
- Register to vote (Government website)
- Post
- By completing the relevant form:
- Register to Vote (PDF) (Government website)

Democracy Day is celebrating the 750th anniversary of the first elected Parliament in Westminster – then a Parliament for England – as well 800 years since the signing of Magna Carta.
Henry continued;
“Last year I contacted schools across Crawley to ask students to take part in a consultation on whether the UK needs a written constitution. I am always looking for ways to use the position as Member of Parliament to engage young people in our democratic process.
“While it is fascinating to look at the history, it is essential that young people, and in fact anyone who may not be registered to vote, takes a few minutes to do so, and have their say on who represents our town in Parliament”
