Henry Smith MP has welcomed new figures which show that the number of people in Crawley claiming the key out of work benefits has fallen by 1,623 – a 61 per cent drop – since 2010.
More people are in employment than ever before, with over 4.5 million people in work in south east England – an increase of over 360,000 more people in work since 2010.
The level of people out of work is at its lowest level in four decades, and the number of young people out of work is down by nearly 408,000 since 2010.
Henry said;
“Unemployment continues to fall to record lows, meaning more people in Crawley and around the country have the security of a job and are able to provide for their families.
“With wages rising faster than prices, pay packets can go further. There’s more to do, and action such as the launch of a modern Industrial Strategy will help build an economy fit for the future and deliver more well-paid jobs.”
