Henry Smith MP has secured a parliamentary debate on an issue where the UK can enhance animal protection following its exit from the European Union.

Henry said;

“I’m delighted to have secured a debate in the House of Commons on the issue of foie gras imports.

“Foie gras is made from diseased livers of ducks or geese which are force-fed maize repeatedly by having a metal tube inserted down their throats two or three times a day.

“While production of this so-called ‘delicacy’ in the UK is banned, I’m calling for an end to imports of it; only possible once the UK has left the EU’s single market.”

The Crawley MP’s debate will be the final piece of business in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 13th June, and a response from a Government minister is guaranteed. It is estimated that the debate will begin no earlier than 6.45pm.
