Following writing to the parent company Mitchell & Butlers at the start of the week, Crawley MP Henry Smith has expressed his delight at the confirmation that the Frogshole Farm in Maidenbower will keep its historic name after management cast doubt over its future.
Henry said:
“After lobbying the parent pub company of Maidenbower's Frogshole Farm not to ditch its historic name, I'm pleased to get confirmation from their headquarters that the popular Crawley watering hole will keep the name that has been a local feature for centuries.
“The pub will be closing on 3rd November, but when it re-opens on 5th December following refurbishment and rebranding, it will retain its existing name.
"When Crawley's new neighbourhood was planned in the 1980s I can understand why it was called Maidenbower rather than Frogshole after the farms it was built on. I have always thought it appropriate though that as the old house was turned into the local pub, its ancient name remained. I am pleased that this historical reference will stay.”
