Henry Smith MP has welcomed new figures showing that there are over 71,000 fewer workless households in south east England since 2010. This means more families with the security of work, and the number of children living in workless households is continuing to fall – with more than 44,000 fewer children living in workless households since last year.

Across Britain the number of workless households has fallen by around 970,000 since 2010, with the proportion of workless households now at its lowest level since records began in 1996. The fall over the last year was approximately 99,000.

Henry said;

“It’s excellent to see the number of workless households falling – with some 71,000 fewer across south east England since 2010. This means more families in Crawley with the security that comes with a good job and a regular pay packet.

“This is further evidence that reforms to welfare and support for business to create more jobs, as part of work to build a stronger economy, are working.

“We’re working hard to build a stronger and fairer economy – delivering a brighter, more secure future for families in Crawley – but there’s more to do. This is why we’re investing in a modern Industrial Strategy to build a country that works for everyone.”
