Henry Smith MP went to two Northgate-based local companies, Proposals and The Music Company, to coincide with Small Business Saturday, on 5th December.

Henry said;

“I was pleased to go to two local shops on Small Business Saturday to listen to Crawley company owners.

“Everyone knows the place that The Music Company and Proposals bridal shop have in Crawley, and I was glad to spend some time on Small Business Saturday on Northgate Parade.

“While this year’s Small Business Saturday has been and gone, it is of course important that the campaign continues to have an impact all year round – as Member of Parliament for Crawley I will continue to stand up for local firms.

“Smaller firms can go to www.smallbusinesssaturdayuk.com and register for updates and information on the campaign going forward.

“I can also report that in 2014-15, 27.1 per cent of central government spending was with small businesses – this exceeds the target of spending a quarter of the central government procurement budget with small businesses by 2015. This target has now been increased to a third of such spending to be spent with small businesses by 2020.”

Proposals has provided a bespoke wedding service for brides and their party for 25 years, and also provide prom dresses as well as hire formal suits for men.

The Music Company stock a range of guitars and amps, as well as drums, cymbals, keyboards, PA systems and other equipment.

Small Business Saturday UK is a grassroots campaign highlighting small business success encourages customers to ‘shop local’.

The day itself takes place on the first shopping Saturday in December each year, and 2015 is the third Small Business Saturday since its launch in the UK.

There are more than 5 million small businesses across the country, generating £1.2 trillion for the economy.

Since 2010, private sector employment has grown by nearly 2.5 million and small businesses accounted for 65 per cent of this.
