Henry Smith MP has written to local schools in support of the National Citizen Service programme, which is being organised by the Crawley Town Community Foundation.
Henry said;
“I was pleased to be at the launch of the Crawley Town Community Foundation’s National Citizen Service programme at the Broadfield Stadium in August, and I’m happy to write to schools in our town to let them know about the Foundation’s work delivering NCS.
“National Citizen Service was launched by the Prime Minister in 2010, and is aimed at 16 and 17 year olds.
“The scheme’s goal is to help young people become more confident and engaged in their local community, and the programme has helped them to donate over 3 million hours of volunteering to their local communities across the UK.
“It was a pleasure to meet a number of young people at the launch last month who were looking at signing up.”
Henry’s continued support for the Foundation follows his visit to their Easter Soccer School in Maidenbower in April, and attending the Kicks Project in Bewbush last year.
The Foundation have also been mentioned in the House of Commons when Henry raised Crawley Capers, a joint project with Autism Sussex, who won a phone vote to be awarded £50,000 of funding from the People’s Millions.
Claire Burrage-Edwards, National Citizen Service Programme Co-ordinator at the Community Foundation, commented;
“It’s amazing to see the response so far of all the young people that we have spoken to about the NCS programme.
“They see the benefits that it can offer them and their friends going forward in life. It has also been great speaking with young people that have been on the summer programme and are now asking to be able to come back in a Young Volunteer role as they enjoyed the programme that much.”
The Community Foundation still have places available for their Autumn Programme, starting on Friday, 23rd October. For more information please contact [email protected] or call 01233 600142.
