One of the sectors hardest hit by COVID-19 has been our hospitality industry. While Crawley workers employed in this field have benefited from Government support such as the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, the industry’s success going forward will depend on adhering to social distancing rules for a while to come and getting customers through the door.

The Eat Out to Help Out scheme will see the Government support restaurants by reimbursing up to 50 per cent of people’s meals out, up to a maximum of £10 per person, at restaurants, pubs and cafes on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout August.

The initiative will not only allow a discount on meals, but will help provide security to those workers whose livelihoods depend on people going out to eat.

Up to 165 businesses in Crawley could benefit from this programme, which will see money paid within five working days.

Participating establishments will be published on the Government website, GOV.UK, so we can all see who is taking part.

Other measures announced by the Chancellor at the Summer Economic Update include a VAT cut for hospitality, accommodation and attraction businesses from 20 per cent to 5 per cent for six months. Up to 370 companies could stand to benefit from this support in Crawley.
