Crawley MP, Henry Smith, has welcomed the announcement from the Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Exchequer that there will be £36 billion invested in more than 200 infrastructure projects this year.
This investment will particularly benefit Crawley with improved rail links and station upgrades helping to create the jobs that provide people with stability and security.
Commenting Henry said:
“The Government continues to drive forward its infrastructure modernisation programme with its recent £50 million contribution for the comprehensive redevelopment of Gatwick Airport’s railway station, signalling and track capacity, which comes in addition to the £26 million upgrade of Three Bridges station.
“Furthermore, as part of the Government’s £6 billion Thameslink Project, local rail firm, Siemens, is working to increase the number of trains running through central London by 300 per cent. As part of this programme, the construction of the Three Bridges depot has created over 600 new jobs locally which clearly represents a vote of confidence in our town and an endorsement of the local economy.
“I was also recently honoured to officially open the new South East England rail control centre now based at Three Bridges rail yard too.
“These investments mean improved services for local commuters and businesses.”
