Henry Smith MP has secured a parliamentary debate next Thursday in an attempt to block the proposed cull of badgers in England.
Henry said:
“I’ve been a vocal opponent against the badger cull and have worked closely with former Queen guitarist, Brian May, and animal welfare organisations to coordinate a campaign to block the cull.
“Having called in Parliament in favour of a debate to prevent a badger cull, on Tuesday I gave evidence to the House of Commons Backbench Business Committee which schedules the agenda for the forthcoming weeks and secured a floor debate on the issue, with a vote at the end, for Thursday, 25th October 2012.
“I don’t support a badger cull in England because I believe the way to help tackle the spread of bovine tuberculosis is through vaccination. If such a cull were to go ahead I believe it would be cruel and damaging to wildlife. I have received a great deal of support from Crawley residents and will continue to push the case in Parliament.
“This is a significant step to prevent a cull of badgers in England.”
