As Save the Children celebrate their first ever Christmas Jumper Day, Henry Smith MP today donned a festive woolly and encouraged other residents to following his lead in exchange for a £1 donation to save children’s lives.
Henry said:
“I couldn't wait to offer my support to this brilliant campaign that will help raise money to improve the lives of vulnerable children in the UK and overseas – I know I don’t look as handsome as Colin Firth in his Christmas jumper from Bridget Jones Diary but hey, it’s all in a good cause!
“Save the Children's Christmas Jumper Day has really caught the imagination of the UK – hundreds of thousands of people across the country have donned a festive sweater to save children's lives. And it's not too late to join in!”
The fundraising day, which is thought to be the first of its kind, has seen schoolchildren and office workers all swapping uniforms for jolly knitwear featuring woolly reindeers to cross stitched snowmen. Over 650,000 people across the UK will be taking part and supporting Save the Children's vital work that helps the world's most vulnerable children.
Save the Children works in more than 120 countries. They save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential. In the world's poorest countries, more than 7 million children die every year from easily preventable causes like diarrhoea and malnutrition. Donning a jumper and making a donation will help pay for items such a mosquito nets and vaccines which help save children's lives.
